Oktober 2008 – Kingston Technology, der weltgrößte unabhängige Speicherhersteller, kündigte heute die sofortige Verfügbarkeit der Highspeed 2GHz Speicher-Module mit Triple-Channel-Konfiguration an. Diese Module wurden entwickelt, um die neuen Intel-basierten X58 Motherboards zu unterstützen. Die HyperX DDR3 2GHz Module werden angeboten in Kits zu je drei 1GB Modulen mit Intel® XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) und Core i7 1,65 Volt Plattform Unterstützung.

Neben dem 2000MHz Spitzenmodell besteht das Produkt-Portfolio der Triple Channel-Kits aus 1866- und 1800MHz, sowie Low-Latency 1600- und 1375MHz Geschwindigkeiten. Die ValueRAM Kits, bestehend aus drei Modulen zu 1 bzw 2GB, sind auch verfügbar in 1333MHz and 1066MHz.

Der Fi7EPOWER MLK1610 von YOYOTech zeigte eine um 50 % bessere Leistung als der bisherige Rekordhalter, ein exotisches 8-Core-System, das auf dem UltraSPARC-Prozessor von Sun Microsystems basiert. Der Fi7EPOWER MLK1610 nutzt den neusten Intel® Core i7-965 Extreme Edition-Prozessor, der mit einem integrierten Triple-Channel DDR3-Speicher-Controller ausgestattet ist. Dieser wiederum sorgt in Kombination mit Triple-Channel DDR3-Speicher für eine herausragende Leistung.

SPEC CPU2006 misst die Leistung der CPU und der Speicherarchitektur, und genau aus diesem Grund spielt die Wahl des geeigneten Speichers eine wichtige Rolle. YOYOTech entschied sich dafür, die Core i7-CPU mit 9 GB Hochleistungsspeicher von Corsair zu kombinieren. Elpida hat in einer Presseaussendung angekündigt, dass man die Entwicklung von schnellen und zugleich stromsparenden DDR3-Speicherchips in der kleineren 50-nm-Fertigung abgeschlossen hat. Durch den neuen Fertigungsprozess soll bis zu 50 Prozent an Energie eingespart werden.

Gleichzeitig erlaubt die kleinere Strukturbreite gegenüber der bisherigen 70-nm-Fertigung geringere Eingangsspannungen und höhere Taktfrequenzen. Die Modellpalette wird in den kommenden Monaten sowohl für Server- als auch Desktop-Speichermodule von DDR3-800 bis DDR3-2500 mit allen dazugehörigen Zwischenschritten gestaffelt. Als Spannungen kommen bei den 40 mm² großen Chips die von der JEDEC zertifizierten 1,5 Volt zum Einsatz, spezielle Module wird es aber auch mit nur 1,35 oder gar 1,2 Volt geben. Die Massenproduktion der neuen Speicherchips soll im ersten Quartal des Jahres 2009 anlaufen.
